I have owned the Garmin Foretrex 101 since November of 2007, and I use it frequently for several sports. I was attracted to the Foretrex 101 based upon it's compact design, simplicity of use, and general durability. I use this GPS unit in marine environments at least 25 to 30 weekends yearly; I race sailboats on San Francisco Bay, and the built-in countdown timer is handy. Additionally, I mountain bike throughout Northern California - the compact design of the Foretrex allows me to easily mount the unit on my handlebars.
I chose the Foretrex 101, which runs on AAA batteries, over the rechargeable 201, since some of my sailing trips exceed the 16 hour battery life.
The only weakness I have seen in the Garmin Foretrex series are the pins used to secure the unit onto the wristband. Two pins have failed on my unit; they seem to be under-built for the Foretrex's intended use. Otherwise, it's a solid and reliable Garmin product.
